Fourth, It snowed here today!!! My heart be still! I love snow! It makes me feel like Alice in Wonderland, there's magic happening all around. Reality is it's me in a winter wonderland! My all time dream vacation would be at Chateau Lake Louise in Canada in the dead of winter (a honeymoon there would be dreamy). One of my favorite movies is a classic kids movie, "The Snowman," by Raymond Briggs. Here's a clip of one of my favorite parts. Here's some fun snowflake facts.
- The world's largest ever snowflake to date found was 15 inches wide and 8 inches thick. This snowflake occurred at Fort Keogh, Montana, USA on 28 January 1887.
- The worlds tallest ever snowman made measured a massive 100 feet tall and was made by the people of Bethel, Maine, USA. It took 2 weeks to build, finally being completed on 17 February 1999. The snowman, nicknamed Angus was so big that he had vehicle tyres for his mouth and trees for arms.
- The snow capital of the United States is Stampede Pass in Washington State. Each year, the average snowfall is 430 inches.
- The largest amount of snow recorded in one year was 1140 inches. It was recorded in Mt. Baker ski area in Washington in 1998-1999. That is about 95 feet of snow in one year!
- The average snowflake falls at a speed of 3.1 miles per hour.
- People buy more cakes, cookies and candies than any other food when a blizzard is in the forecast.
- Billions of snowflakes fall during one short snowstorm
- Snowflakes are really six sided
